MTV to honor Jim Carrey, Spike Lee

NEW YORK, June 1 (UPI) -- Actor Jim Carrey and director Spike Lee were announced Thursday as the recipients of special 2006 MTV Movie Awards.

Carrey will be given the MTV Generation Award and Lee will receive the Silver Bucket of Excellence Award for his film, "Do the Right Thing," during the ceremony -- to be broadcast live on MTV Saturday night from the Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, Calif.

Jessica Alba is host of the event that will feature performances by Christina Aguilera, AFI and Gnarls Barkley.

Among the growing list of performers slated to present awards, MTV Thursday added Sandra Bullock, Keanu Reeves, Eva Mendes, Zach Braff, Rosario Dawson, Anna Faris and Sacha Baron Cohen.
