LOS ANGELES, June 1 (UPI) -- Actors Sean Bean and Sophia Bush have climbed aboard Rogue Pictures' remake of the classic 1986 horror film, "The Hitcher."

Veteran music video director Dave Meyers will be at the helm of the flick being produced by Platinum Dunes, The Hollywood Reporter said Thursday.

"The Hitcher" is the story of a couple traveling cross-country who become the prey of a serial killer.

Bean will assume the role originally played by Rutger Hauer, while Bush -- of the WB's "One Tree Hill" -- has been cast as the female lead. The other male lead has yet to be announced.

Bean is best known in the United States for his roles in "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, "Flightplan" and "North Country."
