Taylor Hicks signs record deal

LOS ANGELES, May 31 (UPI) -- "American Idol" champ Taylor Hicks has signed a contract with 19 Recordings Limited and Arista Records.

Simon Fuller, the creator of the British import, owns 19 Recordings Limited, Billboard.com noted Wednesday.

The Alabama native's first single being released June 13 will be the song he sang at the end of the May 24 finale on Fox TV, "Do I Make You Proud."

Hicks sang the Doobie Brothers' "Takin' It to the Streets" for the compilation CD, "American Idol Season 5: Encores" which bowed Wednesday at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
