Actress sues tabloid for drug abuse claim

LOS ANGELES, May 30 (UPI) -- Former child star Lark Voorhies has filed a libel suit in Los Angeles against a supermarket tabloid that reported she was hospitalized for cocaine addiction.

Voorhies, who starred on TV's "Small Wonder" and "Saved By the Bell," is seeking unspecified punitive damages from the National Enquirer for a story last June quoting a "friend" who said she had a "terrible drug problem," TMZ.com reported.

In the Los Angeles Superior Court suit filed Tuesday, Voorhies claims the bogus article cost her acting jobs, invaded her privacy and inflicted "humiliation, embarrassment, hurt feelings, mental anguish, and suffering."

The suit includes a letter from the actress' doctor saying she was not addicted to cocaine nor was she hospitalized for substance abuse.
