SAN BERNADINO, Calif., May 24 (UPI) -- San Bernadino County supervisors celebrated "Sammy Hagar Day" with a visit from the Fontana, Calif., native son and his proud mother.
The mop-haired rocker quoted "raucous lyrics" that drew a laugh from the politicians during a brief ceremony in the county chamber Tuesday, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Hagar kicks off his summer tour June June 3 at the Hyundai Pavilion in Glen Helen Regional Park during which he'll help raise funds for the burn unit at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton, Calif.
The former Van Halen frontman has teamed up with the county to raise $70,000 for the hospital and tickets to the show are even being sold on the official government Web site, www.sbcounty.gov, the Times said.
After giving a short speech, Hagar posed with commissioners for photos, hugged his mom and sauntered out a back door, letting the officials get back to the usual business of highway repairs and tax revenue, the newspaper said.
