Barton spoils 'The O.C.' climax

LOS ANGELES, May 19 (UPI) -- "The O.C.'s" Marissa Cooper was killed off on Fox TV's "The O.C.," but actress Mischa Barton wrecked the surprise during a TV interview.

Barton spilled the beans about her character's death to "Access Hollywood" before Thursday night's season finale, E! Online reported.

"My character has been through so, so much and there's really nothing more left for her to do," she told the celebrity news TV show.

Barton's Marissa was killed in a post-high school graduation car accident caused by her fling with bad boy Kevin Volchok played by Cam Gigandet. The character died in the arms of her on-again, off-again beau Ryan, played by Benjamin McKenzie.

It had long been rumored this season would be Barton's last on "The O.C."

She's currently the spokesmodel for Neutrogena and Bebe and has several Hollywood films in the works.
