Univision unveils new shows for 2006-07

NEW YORK, May 18 (UPI) -- The U.S. Spanish-language channel Univision announced in New York plans for a reality show/beauty pageant next season called "Belleza Latina."

"Beauty pageants are a staple of Latin culture," "Belleza Latina" host Giselle Blondett said Wednesday. "But viewers want to get to know the women behind the sashes."

"Belleza Latina" is one of two new reality-based weekend shows unveiled by Univision, the New York Daily News reported Thursday.

The other is similar to ABC's "Dancing with the Stars," but instead of dancing, people will be paired with celebrities on "Cantando por Un Sueño" to sing, the Daily News said.

Univision Executive Vice President Alina Falcon also announced the addition of four prime time novelas, a family sitcom and a game show that will see five families square off in a series of competitions.
