LOS ANGELES, May 5 (UPI) -- Jonathan Rhys-Meyers will play King Henry VIII in Showtime's original series, "The Tudors," it was reported Friday.

Sam Neill has signed on to portray the British king's adviser, Cardinal Thomas Wolsey, who fell from favor when he failed to convince Rome to sanction his divorce from his first wife, Catherine of Aragon, The Hollywood Reporter said.

The 10-episode show on the premium cable network will cover all eight marriages of the fickle king.
