Bollywood composer Naushad dead at 86

BOMBAY, May 5 (UPI) -- Veteran Bollywood composer Naushad Ali has died in Bombay of a heart attack at age 86, it was reported Friday.

Naushad, who scored some of Bollywood's classic films including "Mughal-e-Azam," was hospitalized for heart trouble when he suffered the attack, the BBC reported.

"With his death, a generation of music composers has ended," actress Lata Mangeshkar said. "The phase of Indian classical music that existed in our films has ended."

Among his awards were India's Padma Bhushan, the country's highest civilian award as well as a lifetime achievement award from India's cinema industry.

In a recent interview, Naushad told the BBC his "best tune is yet to come."

"Let me get better and then I'll show you what I can produce," he said.

His son, Iqbal Naushad, said a funeral would be conducted Friday.
