Princess Margaret's jewels to be auctioned

LONDON, May 3 (UPI) -- More than 90 pieces of jewelry that belonged to the late Princess Margaret will be auctioned off in London to help pay her son's inheritance tax.

The jewels were displayed for the first time Tuesday at the Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh, Scotland, and will go under the hammer at Christie's in London next month, the Telegraph reported Wednesday.

Among the items up for sale are Poltimore Tiara and the necklace she wore at her wedding and a pearl and diamond necklace given to the princess by her grandmother Queen Mary on her 18th birthday in 1948.

Margaret's son, Lord Linley, is selling the precious items to help pay the inheritance tax on her 7.6 million pound ($12.3 million) estate. The princess died in 2003.
