AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, May 1 (UPI) -- British actor Martin Freeman will play Dutch master Rembrandt van Rijn in "Nightwatching," a film being shot in Amsterdam, it was reported Monday.

Peter Greenaway is directing for his longtime collaborator, Dutch producer Kees Kasander, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Shooting is expected to start next month on the film about the creation of Rembrandt's painting, "The Nightwatch," and its effect on his life.

Sarah Polley and Minnie Driver have been cast as the women in the artist's life, The Reporter said.

The film will be tied in with a Dutch exhibit of Rembrandt's work developed by Greenaway for the Amsterdam Rijksmuseum.
