LOS ANGELES, April 28 (UPI) -- U.S. syndicated radio personality Phil Hendrie Friday said he was retiring from radio to concentrate on his budding acting career.

The final broadcast of the Premiere Radio Networks' "The Phil Hendrie Show" will be June 23, Radio & Records reported.

"I have taken my show as far as I can in the present climate of terrestrial radio," Hendrie said. "I've been doing these characters for 16 years, and I believe it's time for me to take them from behind the microphone and present them in front of the camera."

Hendrie plays history teacher Dick Green in NBC TV's new sitcom, "Teachers."
