TUSCALOOSA, Ala., April 24 (UPI) -- Jim "Gomer Pyle" Nabors and HBO executive producer Rick Bernstein have been inducted in the the Alabama Stage and Screen Hall of Fame.

About 400 attended the Saturday night gala at Shelton State Community College in Tuscaloosa, Ala., the Tuscaloosa News reported.

After watching the touching video tribute that included messages from celebrity friends as well as clips from "Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C.," Nabors took the podium and said: "I really never watched myself on TV. Now I know why."

"I could go on all night about my wonderful experiences," Nabors said. "It's always good to be home."

Bernstein, a native of Mountain Brook, Ala., borrowed a phrase from his co-inductee, "Shazam!," the newspaper said.

"I don't think I've gotten an ovation like that since my bar mitzvah," Bernstein said, calling the evening "about as perfect as it gets."
