New 'Star Trek' film in the works

LOS ANGELES, April 21 (UPI) -- "Mission Impossible III" director J.J. Abrams will produce and direct an 11th "Star Trek" film for Paramount Pictures, it was announced Friday.

The production team from ABC TV's hit series "Lost" will also be involved in the feature expected to hit theaters in 2008, Daily Variety said.

Abrams and his "MI3" team are writing the script, which will go back to the early days of Capt. James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock, Variety said.

"Star Trek" only trails James Bond in the Hollywood profitability race, Variety noted. The 10 "Star Trek" features have grossed more than $1 billion.
