LOS ANGELES, April 21 (UPI) -- Brendan Fraser has signed on to star in Walden Media's 3-D film version of Jules Verne's "Journey to the Center of the Earth," it was reported in Los Angeles.

The center of the Earth in this case will be Montreal and production begins June 10, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Visual special effects veteran Eric Brevig ("Total Recall," "Pearl Harbor") will direct the tale about a scientist and his nephew who find that the only to get out of an Icelandic cave is through the center of the Earth.

The 1959 film version starred James Mason and garnered Oscar nominations for art direction, sound and special effects.
