LOS ANGELES, April 21 (UPI) -- Director Peter Bogdanovich will steer "The Broken Code," a film about the research scientist whose X-rays helped discover the structure of DNA.

Casting will begin next month with an eye toward production in September or October, Daily Variety reported Friday.

The script by David Baxter is based on the book "Rosalind Franklin and DNA" by Anne Sayre.

The book explores Franklin's contribution to the discovery of the double-helix structure of DNA by James Watson and Francis Crick. She died in 1958 without ever knowing her contribution to the discovery -- and therefore was not considered for the Nobel Prize, Variety said.
