Celebs cut a single for Katrina victims

LOS ANGELES, April 20 (UPI) -- Sister Sledge, reunited after 20 years, and a host of other celebrities have recorded "We Are Family" to benefit U.S. Gulf Coast victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Patti Labelle, George Clinton, Ciara, Christina Milian, Chris Brown, Lyfe Jennings, Mary Mary and Ray J were among the participants in the recording, which will be released to radio the during third week of June.

The recording was brainchild of Grammy-nominated producer Rodney Jerkins, who is putting together a full-length CD to be distributed by Universal Music Group and released Aug. 29.

Proceeds from the single and CD will to the Points of Light Foundation, Communities In Schools and the U.S. Dream Academy to help victims of Hurricane Katrina, Jerkins said in a news release.

Jerkins, 28, has worked with artists such as Shakira, Madonna, Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Lopez, Alicia Keys and LaBelle.
