DETROIT, April 18 (UPI) -- A former FBI agent says a biography that claims a late mob hitman killed former Teamsters boss Jimmy Hoffa is a hoax.
"That's the most embarrassing one to date," former FBI agent Robert Garrity told the Detroit Free Press about the claim made by Richard "the Iceman" Kuklinski who died in a New Jersey hospital last month while serving two life sentences for murder.
In Philip Carlo's book, "The Iceman: Confessions of a Mafia Contract Killer," Kuklinski claims he was paid $40,000 to kill Hoffa in 1975.
"He's part of a car somewhere in Japan right now," Kuklinski said in the book, which will be published in July by St. Martin's Press.
Garrity said Kuklinski was never a suspect in Hoffa's disappearance.
"I've never heard of him, and I've never heard of the writer," he said.
The former FBI agent noted now there are two hitmen who lay claim to the Hoffa killing -- but both are dead and can't be questioned in person.
Frank Sheeran claimed in his May 2004 biography that he killed Hoffa in a house in northwest Detroit.
