LOS ANGELES, April 13 (UPI) -- The Weinstein Co. filed suit in Los Angeles Superior Court Thursday trying to block Columbia Pictures from using the works of author Wang Du Lee.
The suit claims heirs of the author of "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" had a December 2005 contract giving the Weinstein Co. "the option to acquire the motion picture, television, state, publishing and other rights in the Wang Books," TMZ.com reported.
A representative of the Wang family made a similar oral agreement with Columbia but did not have the authorization to do so, the lawsuit says.
Furthermore, the suit contends the written contract with Weinstein is legal, while the oral contract is not.
The suit seeks an injunction barring Columbia from adapting any of Wang's works and asks the court to declare The Weinstein Co. sole owner of the collection.
