Federal director named for Nixon Library

YORBA LINDA, Calif., April 11 (UPI) -- The U.S. National Archives has hired a Cold War historian as the first federal director of the Richard Nixon Library & Birthplace in Yorba Linda, Calif.

For years the federal government has refused to hand over the archive of material from the Nixon White House to the library, but all that will change once Timothy Naftali takes the helm, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday.

Naftali said he takes on the project as neither a fan nor a detractor of the disgraced president.

"I'm too young to have fought in any of the Nixon wars," Naftali, 44, told the newspaper. "My passion is history. I do have a point of view, but I do like to let the chips fall where they may."
