PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif., April 7 (UPI) -- Author Henry Farrell, best known for creepy tales of dysfunctional siblings like "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?" has died in California at age 85.

Farrell died March 29 after a short illness at his Pacific Palisades home, The Los Angeles Times reported Friday.

In addition to "Baby Jane," which became a 1962 Oscar-nominated film starring Bette Davis and Joan Crawford, Farrell also wrote "What Ever Happened to Cousin Charlotte?" which ended up on the big screen as "Hush ... Hush, Sweet Charlotte."

Farrell wrote in several genres using several names in addition to his own, including Charles Henry, Charles Henry Myers and Charles F. Myers, the Times said.

Another one of his novels, "Such a Gorgeous Kid Like Me," was adapted by Francois Truffaut into the 1972 film "Une Belle Fille Comme Moi."

His wife, actress Molly Dodd, died in 1981, and his only known survivor is a sister in Washington.
