Bob Woodruff is back home with family

NEW YORK, April 6 (UPI) -- ABC News anchor Bob Woodruff told colleagues Thursday he is going to his suburban New York home after months of treatment for a head injury suffered in Iraq.

"I am moving on to outpatient treatment and I can't tell you what a blessing it is," Woodruff wrote. "Though I know there is still a long road ahead, it's nice to be feeling more like myself again -- laughing with family, reading bedtime stories and reminding my kids to do their homework."

Woodruff, 44, thanked the doctors and nurses who cared for him as well as his family in the letter posted on the ABC News Web site.

Woodruff was critically injured Jan. 29 when a roadside bomb exploded near his Iraqi caravan north of Baghdad. ABC News cameraman Doug Vogt was injured less seriously and went home with his family to France in February.
