LOS ANGELES, April 4 (UPI) -- The man behind "Scary Movie," "Airplane!" and "Naked Gun" is ready to skewer the hallowed genre of superheros.
Writer, director and producer David Zucker told Zap2it.com he is getting ready to start work on "Superhero!" as soon as he's finished promoting "Scary Movie 4."
"There's 12 or so characteristics that are common to all these superhero movies," Zucker said. "When that happens, you have a possibility that you can spoof a genre. So, this superhero genre might be ripe."
Zucker said he will take on "cliched" superheros such as Superman, Batman, X-Men, the Fantastic Four and Spider-Man.
"It hasn't really been done," he said. "Some of these superhero movies have been movies I've actually liked ... They're good, well-structured movies -- so we can steal that."
What he may not be able to steal, however, are the iron-clad copyrights of his subjects.
So, he said, look for "characters kind of, sort of reminiscent of Spider-Man."
