AUCKLAND, New Zealand, April 3 (UPI) -- All the New Zealand venues that were sites of concerts by actor/musician Russell Crowe could face fines if he smoked on stage, it was reported Monday.
It is already known that Crowe violated New Zealand's Smoke-free Environment Act by lighting up at Wellington's Ilott Theatre and Auckland's SkyCity, the New Zealand Herald reported.
Although both venues said they could do nothing to stop the Oscar-winning actor from breaking the law, the onus lies on the venue operators, officials said. The venues will have to prove all reasonable steps were taken to keep the rocker from smoking.
Chief Health Adviser Dr. Ashley Bloomfield said the Ministry of Health will investigate every complaint it receives about Crowe's swing through New Zealand.
The promoter who booked Crowe's tour said he did not know if the actor knew about the law that bans smoking in bars, restaurants and casinos.
