Beastie Boys to screen film nationwide

AUSTIN, Texas, March 22 (UPI) -- The Beastie Boys' new concert film is set for wide release next week, but fans who just can't wait will get a chance to see it a week ahead of time.

The rap trio will screen "Awesome ... I Shot That" on nearly 200 screens around the country Thursday. It was filmed in October 2004 at Madison Square Garden in New York City by 50 fans who were given video cameras by the band.

"It's mostly the concert," says the group's Adam "MCA" Yauch, who is billed as the film's director, "but there's stuff where audience members sneak backstage and other places, their tangents. It would've been more interesting to give people more tapes and more batteries and let them start shooting earlier."

"Awesome ..." is scheduled to begin a regular commercial run on March 31, with a DVD expected later this year.
