CANNES, France, March 21 (UPI) -- Sofia Coppola's "Marie-Antoinette" starring Kirsten Dunst has been selected to compete in the Cannes Film Festival, it was reported Tuesday.
The film is one of the first to be chosen to compete for Cannes' top prize, the Palme d'Or, The Hollywood Reporter said.
The film shot on location in France tells the story of Viennese girl who became queen of France at age 19 and was beheaded at age 35. Her husband, King Louis XVI, is played by Jason Schwartzman.
The 59th annual Cannes film festival opens May 17 with the world premiere of "The Da Vinci Code," directed by Ron Howard and starring Tom Hanks.
