Rockers paying more attention to T-shirts

NEW YORK, March 16 (UPI) -- Many musicians are looking at T-shirts and other concert apparel to offset declining CD sales.

"They see that our royalty checks are more than they get for their records," Lee Tepper of MerchDirect told RollingStone.com.

Headliners like Motley Crue, Tom Petty, U2 and the Rolling Stones get multimillion dollar advances for merchandise deals, the magazine noted.

The average price of a concert shirt is $35, but the Rolling Stones are selling $50 golf shirts on their current Bigger Bang tour.

The No. 1 concert souvenir is a black T-shirt, followed by hats and programs, Rolling Stone said.

Top acts get about $10 per shirt sold at a concert -- which can mean as much as $150,000 a night.
