LONDON, March 14 (UPI) -- "King Kong" was crowned best film and the "Harry Potter" films were honored for boosting the British film industry at the Empire Awards in London.
"Harry Potter" star Daniel Radliffe, 16, accepted the Empire Outstanding Contribution Award during Monday night's Sony Ericsson Empire Awards ceremony, The Scotsman reported Tuesday.
Hollywood's Tony Curtis, 80, received the Empire Lifetime Achievement Award for his film work including "Some Like It Hot," "Spartacus" and "The Defiant Ones" and Scottish actor Brian Cox received the Empire Icon Award.
The best actress award went to Thandie Newton for "Crash" while Johnny Depp took home best actor for "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory."
"Pride and Prejudice" was named best British film.
The directors' award went to "Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit," Kelly Reilly won best newcomer for "Mrs. Henderson Presents" and "Pride and Prejudice" and director Stephen Frears "of Dirty Pretty Things" was given the Inspiration Award.
The Empire Awards were decided by votes from 25,000 British movie fans.
