'Harry Potter' DVDs set first-day record

LOS ANGELES, March 10 (UPI) -- Copies of "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" have flown off store shelves as quickly as the boy wizard himself, Warner Home Video said Friday.

A record 5 million copies of the DVD were snatched up in North America Thursday and the video is on track to become the best-selling DVD of all time, Warner said in a news release.

"We're extremely pleased with the out-of-the-gate success of the DVD release of 'Goblet of Fire'," Warner Home Video President Ron Sanders said in a statement. "We knew fans really connected with this installment in the Harry Potter series, and that continued loyalty to the franchise has carried over to these phenomenal DVD sales figures."

The two-disc Special Edition includes never-before-seen footage, conversations with the cast, interactive challenges, making-of featurettes and an exclusive look at the film from behind-the-scenes.

Filming is already under way on "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," which is due out in theaters in 2007.
