Ne-Yo's solo album bursts onto charts

NEW YORK, March 8 (UPI) -- Ne-Yo's debut solo, "In My Own Words," entered the Billboard 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts at No. 1, it was reported Wednesday.

Despite a 26 percent increase in sales, the Disney Channel's "High School Musical" soundtrack fell to No. 2, followed by Hawthorne Heights at No. 3 with "If Only You Were Lonely," which also held the No. 1 spots on Billboard's Top Independent Albums and Top Rock Albums charts.

Alan Jackson's "Precious Memories" debuted on the Billboard 200 at No. 4 but entered the Top Country and Top Christian Albums charts at No. 1.

Mary J. Blige's "The Breakthrough" was No. 5 on the Top 200, followed by "The Legend of Johnny Cash" at No. 6, Jack Johnson and Friends' "Curious George" at No. 7 and Carrie Underwood's "Some Hearts" at No. 8.

The top tier of the Billboard 200 was filled out by James Blunt's "Back to Bedlam" and Andrea Bocelli's "Amore" at No. 10.

Domestic CD sales last week totaled 11 million, a 1 percent drop from the week before and 9 percent behind the same period last year. Overall 2006 sales lag 3 percent behind 2005, Billboard reported.
