Brides no longer need whitewashing

CHICAGO, March 6 (UPI) -- When it comes to U.S. wedding gowns it looks like "the new white" is anything but white.

Cream, champagne and coffee tones dominated the dresses at the National Bridal Market, which runs through Tuesday in Chicago, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Monday.

"White really isn't selling anymore," Alyssa LaPrise of the Casablanca Bridal label told the newspaper. "They love champagne, blush, warm gold tones."

Brides have finally tossed tradition aside with the practical realization that "not everyone looks good in white," designer Jim Hjelm said.

"Pale girls, it washes them out," Hjelm said.
