LOS ANGELES, March 2 (UPI) -- Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider was in Los Angeles Thursday getting ready to undergo surgery to remove a polyp near his vocal cords.

The emergency surgery was scheduled for Friday by Dr. Gwen S. Korovin, the throat specialist who has treated Mick Jagger, Celine Dion and Luciano Pavarotti, among others, E! Online reported.

Snider found out about the polyp when his voice gave out after a Jan. 20 concert in Los Angeles.

The vocalist's problems forced the New York band to cancel its appearance at the Atarfe Vega Festival in Spain next week.

Snider released a statement saying he has taped some of his "House of Hair" radio and VH1 shows in advance.

Doctors say recovery from the throat surgery could take a couple of months.
