'View' co-hosts defend S.E. Cupp over Hustler photo
NEW YORK, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- Fugees lead singer Wyclef Jean credits comedian Dave Chappelle for reuniting the long-estranged hip-hop group.
The Grammy Award-winning singers unexpectedly performed together for the first time in nearly a decade in Brooklyn in 2004.
The event was captured in the music and comedy documentary, "Dave Chappelle's Block Party," which opens in theaters Friday.
"You're talking about a group that did not talk for eight years," Jean told reporters, while promoting his new big-screen crime drama, "Dirty."
"And we all get this call from Dave Chappelle. Everyone was trying to put the Fugees back together... The Fugees never broke up in the first place. When you break up, you publicly show up and say, 'This group is no longer.' Nobody said that. All we kept doing was moving forward and doing solo projects and we had drama with each other. We talked about it in the music and we kept it moving."
Jean said the popular comedian approached them from "the purest angle" by simply inviting them to perform at his block party.
Since then, the Fugees have been recording and performing again together.
