Actor Paul Carr dead of cancer at 72

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- Stage, film and TV actor Paul Carr, who appeared in "Star Trek," "Dallas" and "Murphy Brown," has died in Los Angeles at age 72.

Carr died of lung cancer on Feb. 17, Daily Variety reported.

Carr portrayed Lt. Lee Kelso in the pilot of "Star Trek," Variety said. His other TV roles included "Quincy," "The Rockford Files" and "Murder She Wrote."

Among his film credits were "Eat a Bowl of Tea," "Truckstop Women" and "Ben."

His stage roles included "The Biko Inquest," "Celebration" and "Slivovitz" at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles and "The Chemmy Circle" at Washington's Arena Stage.

He received the L.A. Weekly award for best actor in 1987 for "Manhattan Express" and won a 1995 Dramalogue Award for "Assassins."

He is survived by his wife, a son, two daughters and two granddaughters.
