Sex Pistols thumb noses at Hall of Fame

NEW YORK, Feb. 24 (UPI) -- Age has not mellowed The Sex Pistols, who are skipping their U.S. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction and insulted voters who put them there.

"We're not coming. We're not your monkeys," reads a handwritten statement filled with spelling mistakes on British punk band's Web site.

"Next to the Sex Pistols, rock and roll and that hall of fame is a (expletive) stain," the statement says. "If you voted for us, hope you noted your reasons. You're anonymous as judges, but you're still music industry people. We're not coming. You're not paying attention."

The British punk band split in 1978, reformed in 1996 and last toured in 2003, Billboard.com noted.

Leader Johnny Rotten, who now lives in Los Angeles, referred to the "rock and roll hall of shame" in a 2003 interview with Billboard.com.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony is set for March 13 at New York's Waldorf Astoria Hotel.
