Brad Renfro escapes jail in drug arrest

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 23 (UPI) -- Actor Brad Renfro was ordered to drug rehab and three years probation in Los Angeles Thursday after pleading guilty to attempted possession of heroin.

Renfro, 23, was arrested during a December sting during which police went undercover as drug dealers in the Skid Row area of Los Angeles.

He originally pleaded not guilty during his Jan. 18 arraignment, but reversed the plea to avoid jail time, E! Online reported.

Renfro was freed on $10,000 bond and ordered to return to court March 6.

Renfro starred on the big screen in "The Client," "Apt Pupil" and "Ghost World." He appeared in the Jan. 22 episode of NBC's "Law & Order: Criminal Intent."
