Godfather video game 20 percent cheaper

NEW YORK, Feb. 22 (UPI) -- The new Godfather video game will be 20 percent cheaper than initially touted, leading critics to question the quality of the game.

Electronic Arts has promoted the game as a sequel to the film trilogy and book, but a holiday shopping season 2005 release date was pushed to March 21.

The New York Times reports EA officials said developers needed extra time to get the game ready and the price drop reflects a lull in video game purchasing in anticipation of new consoles like the Playstation III due out soon.

Spokeswoman Tammy Schachter said that's why the Godfather game will be $39.95.

But some analysts think EA may have lost a creative edge as it banked on continuing sports franchise games like Madden football, thus lowering the price on a less creative game.

Jeetil Patel of Deutsche Bank Securities said he's got a hold rating on EA stock.

He's waiting to see if buyers think the drop in price for the new Godfather game is an offer they can't refuse.
