LOS ANGELES, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- Comedian Bernie Mac is in final talks to co-star with Terrence Howard in Lionsgate Films' "PDR," Philadelphia Department of Recreation.

The film is based on the true-life story of Jim Ellis, who transformed a group of troubled kids into a top-ranked swim team, The Hollywood Reporter said.

South Africa's Sunu Gonera is directing his first feature film with "PDR," written by Michael Gozzard and Kevin M. Smith.

Mac has both Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for his eponymous Fox TV show. His film credits include "Bad Santa," "Ocean's Eleven," "Ocean's Twelve" and "Mr. 3000."
