LOS ANGELES, Feb. 9 (UPI) -- Adam Sandler and Kevin James are in talks to play fake gay firefighters in a big screen comedy for Universal Pictures.

"I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry" is about two firefighters who pretend to be gay to collect domestic partner benefits, The Hollywood Reporter said Thursday.

"Wedding Crashers" director David Dobkin has signed on to helm the flick and the script is currently undergoing a rewrite by Oscar winners Alexander Payne and Jim Taylor of "Sideways."

The film has been in the planning stages for years with Will Smith, Nicolas Cage, James Gandolfini, Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson among the many actors taking an interest in the premise.
