Raid nets 50,000 pirated CDs and DVDs

NEW YORK, Jan. 30 (UPI) -- New York police arrested three men and seized an estimated 50,000 illegally copied DVDs and CDs being peddled on the streets.

The Motion Picture Association of America, the Recording Industry Association of America and New York Police Department teamed up for the Thursday raid, Daily Variety reported Monday.

"Profiting from the sale of someone else's property is illegal, and we will not tolerate any forms of copyright theft," MPAA spokesman John G. Malcolm said in a news release announcing the bust.

All three suspects were charged with trademark counterfeiting and failure to disclose the origin of a recording.
