LOS ANGELES, Jan. 27 (UPI) -- Former "Friends" star Matthew Perry is returning to NBC as the star of a new drama from Aaron Sorkin and Thomas Schlamme.
The as-yet untitled drama also stars D.L. Hughley and Steven Weber, The Hollywood Reporter said Friday.

The show is set behind the scenes of a "Saturday Night Live" type sketch comedy series. Perry will portray a comedy writer forced out of his high-powered job after a dispute with the network, The Reporter said.
Sorkin -- the creator of the Emmy-winning White House drama series "The West Wing" -- reportedly wrote the part specifically for the actor.
