Brits pick 'Shawshank' as No. 1 film

LONDON, Jan. 27 (UPI) -- About 20,000 British film fans have chosen "The Shawshank Redemption" as the best film of all time.

"Shawshank" lost to "Forrest Gump" in the 1995 Oscar race, Empire magazine noted. "Gump" didn't even make it into the Top 100 as voted by Empire's readers.

No. 2 on the list was "The Empire Strikes Back" followed by "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" at No. 3, "Star Wars" at No. 4 and "The Godfather" rounding out the Top Five.

No. 6 was "Pulp Fiction"; No. 7 was "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King"; "Fight Club" clocked in at No. 8; "GoodFellas" was No. 9 and rounding out the Top 10 was "The Matrix.
