RESTON, Va., Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Soul/R&B legend Wilson Pickett died at a Reston, Va., hospital from a heart attack Thursday at age 64.
The Pratville, Ala., native had a slew of hits through the years including "Land of 1,000 Dances," "In the Midnight Hour," "Funky Broadway," "Mustang Sally," "Engine No. 9" and "Don't Knock My Love Pt. 1," Billboard.com reported.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer used the top sessions musicians of his time on his recordings and even had the late Duane Allman handling the guitar parts for his 1969 "Hey Jude" cover, Billboard said.
Pickett's final studio album, "It's Harder Now," in 1999 won the WC Handy Awards for soul blues album and comeback album. The blues group also named him soul/blues male artist of the year.
He is survived by four children and will be buried in Louisville, Ky., near his mother.
