Chapman film shoots outside Dakota

NEW YORK, Jan. 18 (UPI) -- Actor Jared Leto has packed on the pounds to play John Lennon's killer, Mark David Chapman, in the movie "Chapter 27."

The movie -- being shot at the real crime scene, the Dakota apartment building in New York City -- chronicles the days leading up to Dec. 8, 1980, when Chapman shot the former Beatle to death.

The filmmakers have created some controversy by filming at the murder scene, the New York Post reported.

Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono, still lives in the same apartment and Dakota security officials have been clashing with the filmmakers on a regular basis, the newspaper said.

The movie also stars Lindsay Lohan as a fictional fan who makes friends with Chapman the weekend of the killing.
