SEATTLE, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- Seattle-based Starbucks is expanding its offerings of coffee and CDs to include DVDs and film promotion, it was announced Thursday.

Starbucks' coffee shops will promote Lions Gate Entertainment's upcoming film, "Akeelah and the Bee," officials announced in a news release.

The shops will offer previews of the drama, and will sell the soundtrack and DVDs when they are released.

Laurence Fishburne and Angela Bassett star in the story of an 11-year-old girl who advances from the Los Angeles inner city to the Scripps National Spelling Bee. The movie hits U.S. theaters in April.

"Just as we have demonstrated with music, we believe that Starbucks can ultimately change the rules of the game for film marketing and distribution," Starbucks Chairman Howard Schultz said in a statement.
