Cosby deal with Enquirer revealed in court

PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- Actor Bill Cosby made a deal with the National Enquirer so he could edit his own interview about sexual assault allegations made against him.

The deal was disclosed in a Philadelphia courtroom Monday during a hearing on whether documents relating to a civil lawsuit brought against Cosby by a former Temple University student should be unsealed, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported Tuesday.

The deal with the tabloid let Cosby edit the story that ran about him and also gave him access to an interview with his accuser that was never published, the newspaper said.

In addition to that revelation, a lawyer representing Cosby's accuser suggested the celebrity was receiving "star treatment" from the court.

Criminal charges were never filed against Cosby after the woman alleged he drugged and assaulted her at his Cheltenham, Pa., home in 2004.

In her suit, the victim claims Cosby "and/or his representatives" called her and her mother apologizing and offering "financial compensation, which was not accepted."

Cosby has denied the assault ever happened.
