VORHEES, N.J., Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Tenor Enrico Di Giuseppe, who sang with the New York City and Metropolitan Operas, has died of cancer in New Jersey at age 73.
Di Giuseppe died Dec. 31 in Voorhees, N.J., of small cell cancer, The New York Times reported Friday.
The Philadelphia native specialized in Italian repertory ranging from lighter fare such as "La Traviata" to the heavier like "Cavalleria Rusticana."
He sang with Beverly Sills in some of her most famous roles at City Opera and was on her recording of "Norma," the Times said. He appeared in 26 roles during 16 years with the City Opera.
Di Giuseppe appeared with Marilyn Horne, Christa Ludwig and Martina Arroyo during his years at the Met. He made his Metropolitan Opera house debut Jan. 1, 1970, opposite Arroyo in "Madama Butterfly." His final Met performance was in 1986.
He also sang with the New York Grand Opera in Central Park.
He met his wife, soprano Lorna Ceniceros, during his time with the short-lived Metropolitan Opera National Company, the Times said.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and a brother.
