Palm Springs Fest to honor Huffman

PALM SPRINGS, Calif., Dec. 17 (UPI) -- The Palm Springs International Film Festival Saturday named Felicity Huffman as the winner of its Breakthrough Performance Award.

Huffman will be honored for her role in "Transamerica" during the 17th annual gala at the Palm Springs (Calif.) Convention Center, Jan. 7, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Huffman has been nominated for a Golden Globe Award, an Independent Spirit Award and Broadcast Film Critics Award for her portrayal of a transgender woman reuniting with her son in "Transamerica."

ABC TV's "Desperate Housewives" star has an Emmy for her portrayal of Lynette.

The Palm Springs International Film Fest runs Jan. 5-16.
