LOS ANGELES, Dec. 16 (UPI) -- A comedy written by the late John Candy about a priest transferred to Detroit from Beverly Hills is about to become a screen reality.

"Our Father" will be the first film from a partnership between Mandalay Integrated Media Entertainment and Prelude Pictures, Daily Variety reported Friday.

Candy worked on the idea with producer Mark Koch while in Jamaica filming "Cool Runnings" and had planned to have "Our Father" be his next project after "Wagons East," but he died in in 1994.

Koch and his fellow producers hope to have Candy's friends involved in the project, Variety said.
