Brancato and Steven Armento, 48, are accused of gunning down off-duty New York police officer Daniel Enchautegui, 28, who allegedly surprised them after they broke into an apartment near his home. Both suspects were injured by the officer, who managed to fire off several shots before dying from his injury.

The suspects remain hospitalized with their gunshot wounds and were wheelchair-bound when they appeared for separate arraignments in Jacobi Medical Center's conference room, the New York Times reported.
